These are Germany's most beautiful hotels

The last few months have sharpened our focus: On the fact that good things are sometimes closer than we thought. We have compiled twelve of our favorite vacation destinations on our doorstep for your next trip - old classics and new treasures.

Mauritzhof, Münster The "Mauritzhof" on the edge of Münster's old town has been around since the 80s. However, the 52-room boutique hotel underwent a butterfly-like transformation a few years ago, with the Berlin design studio Lambs and Lions simultaneously providing the pupae and the cocoon of heavy fabrics and warm colors, double rooms from 159 euros.

Rosso, Allgäu South of the Elbe, life is not the same. That's what Lisa Rühwald and Christian Müller noticed when they set off from Hamburg two years ago "with a healthy dose of naivety in their luggage". They didn't get as far as Italy, because a farm in the Allgäu region fell in front of their feet. Meanwhile, Kranzbach Castle is open to guests from all over the world as an exquisite hideaway with an excellent spa and wellness area, surrounded by a 13-hectare mountain meadow. Michelberger, Berlin Since its opening eleven years ago, the "Michelberger" on the Oberbaumbrücke has been a safe bet for friends of industrial minimalism. The rooms in a former light factory were designed by Werner Aisslinger at the time, and last year 23 new rooms were added, furnished by Jonathan Tuckey and Sigurd Larsen, double rooms from 80 euros.

Ameron Neckarvillen, Frankfurt Frankfurt is morphing from a faceless banking metropolis into a vacation destination for extended weekends. So it's only logical that old offices are transformed into stately hotels like the Ameron Neckarvillen Boutique with herringbone marble floors and Rubelli fabrics, double rooms from 119 euros.

In the Bregenzerwald, Georg Bechter Architects have struck just the right note with the careful modernization of an old vacation home. The road winds in curves from the small community of Langenegg up the hill to Rotenberg. At the top of the hill stands a vacation home from the sixties. It offers its inhabitants an enviable view in the direction of Lake Constance as well as of the highest peak in the region, the Damülser Mittagsspitze.
