(Advertising) In cooperation with OTTO, we have taken a look at the balcony, which is even called a window to the outside world by some. Who does not know it? During the long autumn and winter time the balcony degenerates felt to a garbage outdoor storage, the plants hang through, it is a small tragedy, at most to cool drinks or on New Year's Eve the balcony has found a use in the winter. All the better that spring has finally arrived in our country and we can once again give our balconies our full attention.

The balcony story

The history of the balcony, by the way, can be traced back to around the birth of Christ. If we believe ancient Roman wall drawings, covered balconies on buildings were already common in the Roman Empire. In the Orient, too, wood-carved balconies provided a view of the public, especially for women. With the expansion of the Ottoman Empire, balconies came to the Mediterranean region and thus spread to Europe. At first, balconies were increasingly found on stately homes as well as in the countryside. Only in the 18th and 19th century, when the odor nuisance in the streets thanks to sewerage, etc. got under control, you can also find outside balconies increasingly on city houses, before loggias in courtyards enjoyed greater popularity.

No matter if the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet, the German movie classic 'A summer in front of the balcony' or the sung about cactus in front of the balcony. We simply love balconies! What could be better than watching the hustle and bustle in the neighborhood from this so-called outside window to the world, drinking a glass of wine with pleasure or just enjoying the sun?
